I’m glad the Static Shock fandom almost collectively agrees not to ship Static with Daisy but I think they not ship them for the wrong reasons. Most of them don’t ship Static with Daisy cause she get’s in the way for their ship with Static being Richie and they think she’s too ugly to be with Virgil. I think she’s pretty. Even as a kid the reasons why I’ve never shipped Static with Daisy is cause both in the comics and cartoon their relationship is boring and Daisy is a boring character. She’s not a bad character or a good character, she’s just boring. Cartoon Daisy could be a good character if they did more with her in the show. Another reason why I don’t like Daisy being with Static is cause she’s a bad love interest. A good love interest makes us care about their relationship with the main character but I never cared about Static’s relationship with her. In the show it was hard caring about their relationship when they had Virgil liking Frieda in the first episode and than dropping it. Frieda was a better character in the show than Daisy was. It was hard caring about their relationship in the comics when they introduced Dusk and Dusk was cooler and more interesting than Daisy and had a better relationship with Static. It’s hard caring about their relationship when you know that Static is eventually going to get with Frieda who he is better with. There’s no reason to why we should care about their relationship. Another reason why Daisy is a bad love interest is that she doesn’t just much chemistry with Static. She has some chemistry with him but very little. Static had the best chemistry with Frieda, Dusk and even Richie. Another reason why she is a bad love interest is that she doesn’t make Static grow as a person. Good love interests make their main character grow as a person. She’s not even meant to be his real love interest. Frieda is his real interest and the cartoon should’ve let her be his real love interest instead of pushing her to the side. Static and Daisy Watkins are boring together. I’m glad the fandom agrees not to ship them but I wish they were more open to shipping Static with girls cause there are girls worth shipping Static with. The cartoon fandom kinda hates shipping him with girls but there are girls worth shipping him with like Frieda, She-bang and Dusk.
For a black lead show with a lot of diversity, I think the Static Shock fandom focuses too much on the white characters mostly Richie and Hotstreak. They have the most fanfics. Richie has a lot of fanart. While I love Richie and Hotstreak, they are good characters but the characters of color in the show are good characters too. Static himself is a good character. Besides Static, the other characters of color barely have fanart and fanfics of themselves. They have some but not a lot. Shiv has a few fanfics and some fanart but not much. I’m surprise people don’t like She-bang. She was a cool character. She deserves more attention. I would love to see some friendship fics of her with Frieda and Daisy. Puff was a cool villain. Nightingale had such cool powers, how do people not like her ? The Nightbreed in general were cool. I get that the Static Shock fandom is almost dead but please give the characters of color attention.
So here’s the thing. For years, superhero films have been notoriously white and male. And it’s gotten boring. Superman and Batman have the most film adaptations out of any superhero and a vast chunk of them end up being the same. The only two female superhero movies we got were Catwoman and Elektra, both of which were garbage and the last good black superhero film was Blade. With all this in mind, that is why people were so excited for Wonder Woman and Black Panther. This is why people are hyped for the possible Static Shock movie and Captain Marvel. What’s so bad about people being excited for something different? It’s not like there is a lack of superhero films featuring white males.
Static (Virgil Hawkins) would be the perfect film franchise (outside of Wonder Woman) to help get DC movies back on the right track and compete with Marvel.
