There’s a lot of straight characters that people ship together, such as Human Torch/Spider-Man, Wolverine/Nightcrawler, Cyclops/Wolverine, Captain America/Winter Soldier, Captain America/Iron Man, Iron Man/Doctor Strange, Magik/Kitty Pryde, Captain Marvel/Spider Woman, Magneto/Charles Xavier, Batman/Superman… I could go on. But you know what? There’s actual gay and bisexual and lesbian and pansexual characters in the comic books people seem to be forgetting about. All of those aforementioned characters are assumed straight until/unless confirmed otherwise because they’ve all had romantic relationships with opposite gendered partners. While I know there’s an argument saying that people can go on for years without coming out, and I know that to be true because of real life experience with people who’ve done that, but at this point I think it’s very unlikely that all of those characters and others would come out as anything other than straight save maybe one or possibly two of them. All that this does in my view is erase that actual LGBTQ characters in the comics and instead ship two straight people together in what seems to be a forced relationship. I would definitely love more LGBTQ characters in the comics being a queer person myself but at this point in time I see much more content for straight characters in gay relationships than actual gay characters in relationships. The only one I see a lot of content for is Deadpool who is pansexual, but half of that is with Spider-Man and the other half is with Cable.
